  • Lack of access to water, sanitation and hygiene and insufficient measures to address climate change are intertwined – they cannot be solved separately and need to be addressed through multistakeholder engagement.
  • As a starting point, water and sanitation policies must be aligned with climate commitments and be included in countries‘ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and the National Adaptations Plans (NAP).
  • Sanitation and Water for All’s (SWA) Mutual Accountability Mechanism (MAM) provides a mechanism for governments and other stakeholders to make SMART commitments based on national plans.
